One of the most popularized professional application of drones (UAV / UAS) is the idea of several logistics companies to use these for courier delivery. But it is just one of their capabilities, as they are not limited exclusively to this purpose, are protect us or even save lives with emergency drones reveals some potential applications.

Due to the gadgets these emergency drones can carry, such as cameras, flares, etc… they are converted into perfect tools for saving lives, accessing unapproachable locations or tracking secure accesses in natural disasters, in search and rescue missions, and even in hostage situations. They can also help on traffic control on roads, both in traffic jams as for noticing the presence of cyclists, motorists, oversized vehicles, etc…

Furthermore, thanks to a supervision and maintenance is possible to save lives with emergency drones; by preventing avalanches, examining and controlling risk areas and triggering controlled avalanches without risking human lives. In the event of an avalanche they are able to locate survivors with thermal cameras and deliver survival kits.

Emergency Drones with Veronte Autopilot

Ticino Cuore Foundation from Switzerland has created a system to save lives with emergency drones. It is focused on heart attack victims in remote and inaccessible areas. Ticino Cuore receives around 35.000 calls a year in Switzerland, and it is considered the main organization in early reanimation and defibrillation. In addition to having over 40.000 trained people and it having distributed 3.000 defibrillator devices throughout Switzerland, it forms 3.200 students of secondary education each year.

For an effective reanimation, the use of a defibrillator is imperative. The time between the beginning of a heart attack and the start of the reanimation is extremely important. Every minute that passes is a 10% less likely to survive. Ticino Cuore has developed an application that permits to alert the emergency drones from the mobile phone; these will provide a defibrillator of small size in less than 6 minutes anywhere in Switzerland. Thereby significantly is increased the chance of surviving to a heart attack.

All this is possible with integration into emergency drones of a redundant Veronte Autopilot. This avionics system is ideal for controlling this hybrid drone, that permits take off and land vertically and is capable to fly up to 200 Km/h. Making this drone completely autonomous in a radius of 20 Km from each base, and suitable to deliver the defibrillator even in mountainous areas, landing where it is necessary or throwing the defibrillator with a parachute. All of this in the right place and with a high degree of accuracy using GPS.
