Embention, in its mission of Enabling Drones To Populate Our Skies, includes a unique but not really well known functionality in the Veronte Autopilot 4x. This flight controller can be used as a backup unit to face a UAV certification process for aircraft using non certifiable third party avionics.

The Veronte Autopilot 4x includes an I/O for the connection of a third party autopilot (4th core) that can be configured to be the main flight controller, working the Veronte Autopilot as a backup flight control system that will take the control of the aircraft in case of failure of the main autopilot.

This innovative way of using the Veronte Autopilot enables the use of non-certifiable avionics and mission computers in drones and eVTOL, maintaining the high levels of reliability required in aviation. The arbiter in Veronte Autopilot 4x will isolate the non-certifiable avionics from the critical path, taking the control of the aircraft for the continuation of the mission or to terminate it by flying to a safe landing area, in case of failure.

This fail-safe architecture can easily be customized as per aircraft and mission needs and the failure analysis performed. During the operation, a large number of variables and bits from all four cores are monitored (flight out of the safe area, outside flight envelope, battery level…) in a way that Veronte Autopilot will take the control in case that any of those variables get out of the safe ranges predefined.

Veronte Autopilot 4x, the perfect solution for UAV certification

The Veronte Autopilot 4x is developed in compliance with DO178C (Software Considerations in the Certification of Airborne Systems and Equipment) and DO254 (Design Assurance Guide for Airborne Electronic Hardware) standards with a DAL-B compliance level (DAL-A in progress) and counts with a Certification Datapack containing the documentation with all the evidences required for an eVTOL or UAV certification.

The hardware inside Veronte Autopilot 4x has been designed in a way that there is no single point of failure. Even in the event of an arbiter failure, the system automatically assigns the control of the platform to one of the autopilot cores, and the mission will continue being executed until the end.

Due to the disruptive architecture in Veronte Autopilot 4x and the certification compliance, it is positioned as the unique backup autopilot ready for enabling UAV certification in drone systems powered by a non certifiable Flight Control System.
