Veronte CAN Expander MC (metal case) is a powerful peripheral very useful to reduce the amount of cable in autonomous vehicles at the time that reduces the risks of interferences and permits to increase the number of devices in the system. It makes possible to relocate and to group sensors, actuators, payloads, motor controllers... enhancing the I/O connectivity in the Veronte Autopilot. Its integration is simple and easy, and therefore Veronte CAN Expander MC becomes a quick solution for increasing connectivity, capacity and allows wiring optimization, especially in large systems. In this concrete version (MC), Veronte CAN Expander is embedded in a high resistant to impacts aluminum case, which provides IP66 protection at the time that it protects the system against electromagnetic interferences.

Wiring Optimization

Wiring optimization is critical, especially in large vehicles, not only in terms of weight reduction or simplicity of the wiring schema using the CAN Expander, but also  for the robustness that it provides. It makes the system resistant to electromagnetic interferences and permits the installation of long cables without signal loss. Furthermore, it includes redundancy with CAN bus isolation, making the system operational even in case of a CAN bus break of line.

Enhanced I/O

With Veronte CAN Expander MC, the data capacity for input and output in Veronte Autopilots is highly increased. The advanced design makes possible to control several peripherals (PWM, UART, Digital Output, I2C, Analog Inputs...) through the CAN Bus. It can be used to expand the I/O capacity in Veronte Autopilot, or to control peripherals with a robust communications protocol. If needed, it is possible to install several CAN Expander boards in the same network to increase the number of I/O ports or because the system architecture requires it.

Redundant CAN Bus

Safety is a critical factor in the UAV and autonomous vehicle industry, especially when focusing on a UAV Certification process. Redundancy is a basic feature for any system which is a candidate to pass exams and tests with very demanding safety levels. It ensures the right functioning of the component in all situations, remaining fully operational even in case of a CAN Bus break of line. Galvanic isolation is included in the redundant CAN Bus to avoid the propagation of electrical failures in the system. With this, in case that one of the lines becomes affected by an electrical issue,  the other CAN Bus line will remain operative and unaffected.
