The use of multirotor drones for any type of aerial work is already a reality to be taken into account. And so far the helicopters were the owners of the sky to perform all kinds of aerial work. Currently, large companies and institutions are investing effort and resources in enhancing multirotor drones in front of helicopters. Since the drones provide economic and operational advantages among others.

There are many advantages, but the following are the most important ones:

Economic advantages of multirotor drones

With the multirotor drones is possible to reduce the cost in jobs such as surveillance, transport, maintenance … Highlighting the jobs in the agricultural sector, which potentially can achieve a savings of between 75% to 85%. No insignificant savings that are achieved by the ease of operation, the reduced time required before and during the flight, the greater availability of time slot per day and accessibility to areas of difficult access.

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) of Spain is already beginning to replace the obsolete helicopters by multirotor drones, as in other countries with this type of state agencies. DGT already has a multirotor drones fleet to monitor the circulation of roads this year. These devices will be performing controls in the summer period, in which up to 94 million trips are calculated. In Spain, the Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Markasla already mentioned that the use of drones in this type of work would significantly reduce costs in the short, medium and long-term.

In the energy sector, companies such as Iberdrola and Endesa are already joining the use of multirotor drones to check their power lines throughout the Iberian Peninsula. Although in this case, they perform a support service for the work done with helicopters, due to their capacity to carry out operations in small spaces.

Operational advantages compared with helicopters

We have already indicated that this is another of the main advantages of multirotor drones. Since they can both take off and land in any open space and arrive where no other helicopter has been able to arrive before. And it is that thanks to its small size (we are speaking of less than 1m² and less than 5kg) we could take topographic readings, take pictures and videos, perform surveillance and fire detection, day and night surveillance.

Without forgetting that the new law of piloting by remote control published on December 27th, 2017 gives the possibility of piloting night with multirotor drones, under a special authorization of the State Agency for Air Safety (AESA). It also allows us to make flights with multirotor drones of more than 2kg in the city, in controlled airspace and flights beyond the visual range also known as BLOS.

At Embention, aware of these advantages, we offer companies interested in promoting the use of multi-engine drones in their work with our products in the NM& aircraft range. Where in this case we highlight our NM& M600 and NM& TS150 multirotor. In the case of the NM& TS150, it is a complete platform composed of a tethered station that also includes the NM& M600 drone joined together by a cable that gives unlimited autonomy, which compensates for the greater handicap of the multirotor drones.
